To Apply

Upon acceptance and admission to the IIPP Fellowship Program, Fellows must commit to a multi-year education and training program that requires three consecutive summers of fellowship-related activities; study abroad for a minimum of one semester during their junior year of college; an internship; a summer language institute (if the Fellow is not competent/fluent in a foreign language); and application to and completion of a Master’s-level graduate program focused on international affairs. The junior year study abroad component must be completed before a Fellow graduates from college. An IIPP Fellow must complete all requirements of the program within six years.

I. Online Requirements:

Online Application including:

  • UNCFSP Personal Profile (includes a brief statement of your career goals).
  • Personal Statement (Essay # 1) - 500-word (maximum) personal statement that tells us about yourself and why you should be selected as an IIPP Fellow.
  • Issue Analysis (Essay # 2) - 750-word (maximum) essay that explains why a current international issue is important to you and what you would do to address it if in a position to do so.
  • Two online recommendations

II. Mail-in Requirements: (Faxed documents will NOT be accepted)

 

   These items must by postmarked by the published deadline.

  • Institutional Nomination Form - Candidates admitted to the IIPP Fellowship Program are selected competitively from among applicants in their sophomore year of college who are nominated by the president, academic vice president, or dean of their college/university. To download the form please click the icon below.
  • University/College Transcripts - Provide official, sealed transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended. Unofficial/electronic transcripts will not be accepted.  
  • Financial Aid Award Letter - Provide a copy of your most recent financial aid letter.  Make sure this letter includes the total cost for one academic year at your school as well as the total award that will be applied to your account from all scholarships, grants, or other fellowships you have secured.  
  • Study Abroad- If you have already selected a study abroad program, submit the program description and the course selection documentation. In the Required Supplemental Information section of the online application form, you will be able to upload these documents in a Word or PDF format.

STATUS PAGE: Green status blocks indicate that you have completed entering information into a given section. Red block indicate that information is missing. The application’s status blocks will not change from red green until after the required information has been entered. Check your status page regularly to confirm what sections remain for you to complete. Only UNCFSP staff can change the transcript button from red to green, and will do so only after your official transcript has been received in our office. If the transcript button is red, your transcript has not been received.

STEP 1 - PERSONAL INFORMATION

You must specify your permanent mailing address; fax & telephone number(s); and secondary email address. You must also indicate your citizenship, gender, ethnicity, and disability status. If you are not a US Citizen, documentation of your residence status is required.

The IIPP Fellowship was developed for minority college students, who are underrepresented in careers in international affairs.  Members of the minority groups listed below are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please read the Disclosure Statement, and, if true, enter your name in the space provided. Your electronic signature is acceptable; you do not need to print this page and mail it to the UNCFSP/IIPP office.

 
STEP 2 - ACADEMIC INFORMATION
 
Starting with the most recent first, indicate the colleges and universities you have attended, your dates of attendance, GPA, and degree pursued. Please indicate what discipline you studied, as well as whether or not you have completed the degree. 
 
STEP 3 – Employment/Volunteer Experience

Instead of requiring a resume upload, this section requires you to enter your employment and/or volunteer history. Please enter the organization name; the dates you worked or volunteered there; your title; your years of employment; and a brief description of your duties or activities. Copying and pasting from your resume may be a helpful strategy for completing this section.

STEP 4 – EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS

 Please specify any honors/awards, scholarships/fellowships, or other student activities that you have been involved in. Be sure that you highlight your previous international experiences. 

STEP 5 - SUPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

This section requires that you enter additional information about yourself, your collegiate experience, and your future educational and career plans. The IIPP essay questions are asked in this section. You should write your essays using a word processing program and paste them into the relevant areas in this section.

STEP 6 – ONLINE RECOMMENDATIONS

As part of the online application you will be prompted to enter the name, phone number and valid e-mail addresses for each of the two people who will provide recommendations for you. At least one of the people you enter must be a faculty member from your institution. Once their contact information is entered, the system will send an automatic email to each person with specific instructions they must follow in order to complete the required online recommendation form.

These persons should be able to speak to your commitment to international interests, maturity, academic ability, and potential for success in a graduate degree program.
 
Periodically return to your account to verify that your recommendations have been received. Please understand that our application requires recommenders to complete a very specific recommendation form. Therefore, letters of recommendation will not be accepted. Please advise each person to include all supporting comments on the recommendation form provided.

If you have previously used the UNCFSP registration system, use your login and password to continue, otherwise please register as a new user. If registration is successful, you will be immediately notified by email.
