The UNCF Special Programs Corporation (UNCFSP) Minority Institution (MI) Consortium brings together the research and technical capabilities of over 40 leading Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), MIs, and select private industry partners for basic, applied, and advanced research and prototype development to protect the interests of the Nation.

What is the MI Consortium?

The MI Consortium provides solutions to the federal government through multi-disciplinary partnerships between HBCUs/MIs and small and large businesses engaged in science, technology, engineering, research, development, and prototypes. Working in collaborative teams, consortium members are able to propose projects that address the government's technical objectives. Our HBCU/MI members have outstanding past performance with federal research and engineering projects with a combined level of federal R&D funding over $500M. How does this happen? The MI Consortium uses unique contract vehicles that allow federal agencies to obtain or advance Research and Development (R&D) and prototypes developed by non-traditional contractors. Users of the contract vehicles are not limited by most Federal Acquisition Regulations. What is our Consortium approach? Membership obtained through a Consortium Membership Agreement Catalog list of technical capabilities (HBCUs/MIs, Small Disadvantaged Businesses, Private Industry, Majority Institutions) Government defines research agenda Facilitate technology committees to respond to research agenda White Paper submission / Identify technology objectives Consortium Members submit project proposals for final government selection
